Peas Porridge Hot


  • 1 cup veggie broth (or chicken broth or water)
  • 1 cup of water
  • ½ cup steel cut oats
  • 1 or 2 handfuls of peas
  • ½ - 1 cup diced ham
  • ½ cup cheese + more for topping
  • crispy fried onions


  • In a medium-sized saucepan, bring the stock and a pinch of salt to a low boil
  • Stir in the oats and lower the heat so the pot is barely simmering
  • Cook, stirring occasionally, for 20 - 30 minutes, until the oats are soft and have thickened
  • Taste and add salt and pepper, as needed
  • Remove from heat, add the peas, diced ham, and cheese
  • Top with extra shredded cheese and crispy fried onions
