I'm always amazed by how quickly something can become a habit

Like all things that are good, until they're not, it started innocently enough

One of the first car rides since Wally, our puppy came home from surgery

“Hey Big Guy, what if we stopped for your favorite tasty treat?  Vanilla frozen yogurt, straight up, and slightly melty.  A little pick-me-up while we run our errands?”

It was such a fun thing that we did it the next day too, and then the next, and ..

Pretty soon, his small vanilla morphed into his small vanilla and my small chocolate.

Yep, the slippery slope had begun, and it was time to find an alternative

I remembered a frozen yogurt trail mix I spied a few months ago

It seemed simple enough

A different way to have Greek yogurt and my favorite add-ins, but this time in frozen form.  A replacement for the cold + sweet I'd gotten into the habit of having, nearly every afternoon

Let's see, what do we have on hand?

Greek yogurt, of course, times 10

Frozen fruit, fresh bananas

For added crunch, homemade granola or nuts of all shapes and varieties in the cupboard

To satisfy a chocolate fix, PB Chocolate Protein fudge or melted sugar-free chocolate chips

Bite-size snacks, made in mini-muffin tins did the trick for controlling portion sizes.

I've experimented with a few different flavors and techniques before landing on the couple I'm sharing today

The first simple enough, frozen fruit mixed with greek yogurt

The second, bananas, sugar-free chocolate chips.  Small morsels of my favorite Peanut Butter Protein Balls rolled into tiny (cookie dough-like) balls

Both top a small base of PB Chocolate protein fudge, granola either mixed with the fudge for a crunchy base or alongside the fruit, blended into the yogurt

They're truly a treat, and absolutely delicious in every way

So now we're developing a new habit.  Snack time in the afternoons is a frozen treat from the freezer, and an extra yummy, smelly puppy treats from his stash

Enjoy!

xoxo

ps:  When greek yogurt freezes, it's quite hard.  Before you indulge, let them sit out 5 – 10 minutes.  I've also read one can add a bit of vodka to the mix, although I have yet to try it out.

pps:  The addition of protein powder works really well in these.  I've tried unsweetened to both vanilla with the fruit mix, and chocolate with the cookie dough flavor.  It will up the protein nutrient ratios by a significant amount
